Firefox 4 brings a handful of new features, some clearly noticeable, some others running under the hood. To begin with, the new Firefox 4 sports a revamped interface with a slightly redesigned browsing buttons, tabs on top of the address bar and a new single-button menu on the top left corner. This button gives you access to all the commands usually displayed in the toolbar (File, Edit, View…) but it’s only available in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
The Add-on manager in Firefox 4 has also been improved. Now it opens in a full new tab –instead of a tiny window – which makes plug-in handling a lot easier. The Download manager though stays exactly the same.
Besides the more obvious new features, Firefox 4 also includes several important improvements to the way the browser interacts with websites. These include full support for HTML5, which lets you make the most of new online media; WebSockets, thanks to which developers will be able to build real-time interactive web apps; support for new CSS3 features, making websites display faster and look prettier; and a new SDK that helps developers create Firefox add-ons more easily.
On the downside, Firefox 4 felt a bit clunky sometimes – though it didn’t crash at any moment – and is as heavy on resources as previous versions - a serious flaw Mozilla still needs to work on.
A revamped interface design, support for HTML5 and CSS3, a new add-on manager and some other new features is what you’ll find in the new Firefox 4.
